Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar – The official spokesman for the Agricultural Police, Brigadier General Adel Bredan, appealed to government agencies, the General Command, and executive authorities for urgent intervention to address the water shortage in the Al-Thaban and Al-Khuwaimat areas, south of the mountain, and to complete the stalled agricultural projects and reservoirs that have been damaged and out of operation for some time.
During a field tour conducted by the Agricultural Police branch, in cooperation with the Agricultural Development Department and the Livestock Department in the city of Al-Bayda, Brigadier General Bredan confirmed that the agricultural projects established since 2008, on which large sums of money were spent, have not been completed despite reaching advanced stages, leaving them vulnerable to erosion and decay.
He pointed out that the state had established cisterns and reservoirs equipped with the latest technologies to meet the needs of residents and breeders. However, the cessation of their operation since the February revolution and the damage sustained from Storm Daniel have led to the loss and absence of water in the affected areas.
He explained that the water shortage has caused great suffering for the population, forcing them to fetch water from areas about 60 kilometers away. It has also caused the death of some livestock due to water scarcity and the absence of pastures, noting that the roads swept away by the storm have not yet been reopened, making it more difficult for farmers and breeders to reach their projects and lands.
He stressed that farmers and livestock breeders in the south of the mountain constitute a fundamental segment in supporting the local economy, emphasizing the importance of completing the agricultural projects and reservoirs to alleviate their suffering and improve living conditions. He called for accelerating the process of putting these projects at the service of citizens and promoting agricultural and livestock development in the region.
