Benghazi – An official celebration was held this Thursday evening at the headquarters of the Moroccan Consulate General in Benghazi to mark the 50th anniversary of the Green March. The event was attended by the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Libya, Said Benkirane; the Director of Consular Affairs at the Libyan government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mansour Boujnat Al-Hassi; the former Libyan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdulmajid Saif Al-Nasr; along with a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Moroccan-Libyan Friendship Association, and a representative from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
This celebration embodied the strong fraternal relations between Libya and Morocco and affirmed the deep historical and cultural ties between the two brotherly peoples. The event saw a large attendance from members of the Moroccan community residing in Libya, as well as several Libyan official and social figures.
In a statement to the Libyan News Agency, Mohamed Rachid, a member of the Moroccan community in Libya residing in Benghazi, said that this national occasion represents a pivotal moment in the history of the Kingdom of Morocco, as it embodies the unity of the Moroccan people and their rallying around their just national cause. He emphasized that the 50th anniversary of the Green March comes amid growing international recognition of the justness of Morocco’s cause and the Moroccan identity of the Sahara.
He added that the Green March remains a symbol of national unity and peaceful struggle to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, praising the achievements made under the leadership of the Moroccan monarch, King Mohammed VI.
The celebration featured the singing of Moroccan national anthems and the presentation of artistic and cultural segments expressing a deep sense of belonging and pride in the history of the Green March and the meanings of solidarity and cohesion it represents, all in a festive atmosphere that embodied the spirit of brotherhood and friendship between Morocco and Libya.
