Britain has reaffirmed its readiness to provide technical and advisory support to Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), enhancing its preparedness for upcoming national elections.
British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, conveyed this commitment during a meeting with HNEC Chairman Emad Al-Sayah at the commission’s headquarters in Tripoli on Thursday.
The commission, via its Facebook page, reported that Al-Sayah discussed with the British ambassador ways to support the electoral process in Libya and the commission’s readiness levels for conducting municipal council elections.
During the meeting, Ambassador Longden expressed appreciation for the commission’s efforts in preparing for the municipal council elections, reiterating “his government’s readiness to provide technical and advisory support to the commission, bolstering its readiness and fostering a conducive environment for the upcoming electoral processes.”
The British ambassador did not participate in today’s meeting of accredited European ambassadors to Libya with Al-Sayah, where discussions focused on the commission’s needs. The European Union’s mission in Libya also affirmed its readiness to support the commission financially, technically, and logistically, according to a statement issued by the EU mission.
