Abuja – Nigerian authorities have announced that at least 37 people were killed in armed attacks on a rural area in Sokoto state in the northwest of the country. Security reports said that gunmen on motorcycles, suspected to be members of gangs known locally as “bandits,” carried out two days of attacks on Dangulbi village in the Tureta district. The assaults left at least 37 people dead and several shops looted.
Large parts of northern and central Nigeria have experienced a surge in armed gang activity in recent years. These gangs are involved in kidnappings for ransom, cattle theft, and assaults on villages and rural areas. The groups often target local residents through killings and abductions. They also loot property and set homes on fire, adding to the security challenges facing Nigerian authorities in these regions.
