The High National Elections Commission affirmed its full readiness to implement the presidential and parliamentary elections in mid-April 2026, provided that funding and security requirements are met, and a clear mechanism is agreed upon to support and supervise the process in the presence of two governments.
In a statement received by Al-Marsad newspaper, the Commission explained that it is exercising its sovereign role as guaranteed by the Constitutional Declaration, stressing its commitment to independence and impartiality to win the trust of citizens and politicians. It stated that it has reached maximum levels of readiness after organizing municipal council elections, and expects to complete this phase by the end of March 2026.
The Commission called on the UN Mission to focus on the core of the dispute, which is the amendment of the electoral laws issued by the (6+6) Committee, and to expedite the settlement of these disputes and refer them immediately to the Commission to enable it to prepare regulatory and executive procedures without delay.
The statement stressed not to be drawn into paths that aim to maintain the current stalemate, affirming that changing the status quo is a purely Libyan decision that must be made by Libyans without any external interference or agendas.
The Commission called on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to assume their responsibilities before God and the people, and to advance the political process towards ending the division and not reinforcing the reality of fragmentation.
In conclusion, the Commission affirmed that it will not hesitate to carry the banner of change and that resorting to the ballot box is the only way to end the division and restore legitimacy, despite all challenges and obstacles.
