Tripoli – The Women’s Support Unit, in cooperation with UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), held a dialogue session on Sunday to discuss the development of a code of conduct for combating violence against women in elections, at the Commission’s Media Center.
The session was opened by Commission Council member Rabab Halab, who emphasized the challenges women face in electoral participation and the importance of amending the code of conduct to provide a safe and inclusive environment that ensures genuine participation for women.
Khadija Al-Buishi, the Women’s Support and Empowerment Advisor at the UNDP, gave a presentation on the importance of integrating electoral violence into codes of conduct to enhance the credibility of the electoral process and women’s rights.
Members of the Committee of Legal Experts, Dr. Jazia Shaitir and Counselor Salah Al-Murtada, also reviewed the draft law on protecting women from political and electronic violence, stressing that the law provides an advanced legislative framework to protect women from all forms of violence.
The session concluded with a working meeting to formulate recommendations for developing the code of conduct, focusing on raising community awareness and strengthening community partnership to ensure a safe electoral environment without discrimination or exclusion.
