Benghazi – A comprehensive forum for female municipal council candidates was held in the city. The event took place at the Libyan International University under the slogan “Women of Benghazi – Leadership and Decision.” It saw wide participation from female leaders, academics, and community figures. Candidates from various lists and individual nominations also attended.
The forum on Sunday was dedicated to supporting female candidates. It aimed to enhance their legal and electoral readiness. The event served as a platform for dialogue and training. Its goal was to raise the political and practical skills of participants.
The sessions opened with a video on the Women’s Union’s main programs. Speeches followed from several prominent figures, including civil society representative Mahmoud Al-Barasi. The President of the Libyan International University, Mohamed Saad, also spoke. Both stressed the importance of empowering women. They emphasized enhancing female participation in local decision-making.
Women’s Union President Nadia Al-Bakoush stated that empowering women is no longer a secondary option. She noted that growing societal and official support reflects real trust in women’s ability to hold leadership roles. She added that the union seeks to provide candidates with the necessary tools to compete effectively.
Khadija Al-Fazzani, the union’s Head of Relations, called for unity among the candidates. She considered a woman’s success a victory for the entire city.
Meanwhile, candidate Khairiya Al-Farjani stressed that Benghazi must make a choice that serves its interests. She affirmed that the city deserves the best.
The forum included legal and training sessions presented by specialists. Topics covered the legal framework for elections and candidate protection. Campaign regulations and building political alliances were also discussed.
Several women with prior electoral experience participated. They presented on the challenges they faced. They highlighted the importance of continuous training to improve women’s readiness.
The forum concluded by affirming the Women’s Union’s ongoing support for candidates. The union will monitor their preparations for the municipal elections. It also emphasized the need to strengthen women’s presence in local decision-making positions.
