Tripoli, Libya – Imad Al-Tarablusi, Minister of Interior appointed to the Interim Government of National Unity, confirmed today that all those proven to be involved in the Abu Salim massacre will face justice.
“Everyone whose involvement in this heinous crime is established will be held accountable, regardless of position or rank. The law stands above all,” affirmed Al-Tarablusi during a press briefing.
The minister stated that the Tripoli Security Directorate has been instructed to pursue the investigation under his direct supervision. The criminal investigation department is currently inspecting the crime scene, collecting forensic evidence and analyzing ballistic data to identify the perpetrators.
Earlier on Sunday, a shooting incident claimed the lives of 10 people near Abushaala Mosque in Abu Salim, Tripoli. Preliminary reports suggest the victims were affiliated with the Stability Support Apparatus and were gunned down inside a house by unknown armed assailants.
The Public Prosecutor’s office is now leading the legal investigation. “Autopsy and ballistic reports have been ordered to determine the time and exact circumstances surrounding this deadly attack,” said Tripoli Security Chief Khalil Wahibi.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) urged local authorities to conduct an independent, swift and thorough inquiry into the massacre and work to prevent further violence. UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily had cautioned that rivalry between Libyan armed factions could spark wider instability in the capital.
