Member of the House of Representatives Hassan Al-Barghouthi stated that he was expressing his personal view on the UN roadmap, stressing that the House of Representatives comprises multiple blocs and different opinions, with agreements and disagreements like the rest of the state’s institutions.
UN Briefing Lacks Binding Force and Guarantees
Al-Barghouthi believed that the latest briefing did not bring anything new of value, being a non-binding presentation of information. He pointed to the absence of real guarantees, especially concerning the security aspect and the proliferation of weapons outside state institutions.
Statements Ineffective Unless Practically Implemented
He explained that while internal and external statements have been issued, what truly matters is what happens on the ground. He considered that the briefing needs clear security, political, and economic guarantees, which are not currently available.
A Committee to Communicate on Sovereign Positions
He mentioned that Speaker Aguila Saleh’s formation of a committee to communicate with the High Council of State is a “goodwill gesture,” revealing the names of Adnan Al-Shaab, Al-Mahdi Al-Awar, and Badr Al-Nuhaib (one member from each region). He considered the unification of these institutions to be a great achievement if realized.
Rapprochement of Influential Figures and Easing of Tensions
Commenting on the meeting between Dbeibah and Saddam Haftar in the presence of Massaad Boulos, he said he does not have precise information but realistically sees that a rapprochement between influential figures could lead to solutions and avert the specter of war, while at the same time reiterating his lack of faith in the work of the UN mission.
