New York – Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher El-Sonni, emphasized that Security Council statements on Libya have become repetitive news bulletins. This is the common view held by Libyans.
During his speech before the UN Security Council on Wednesday, El-Sonni stated that Libya is a victim of external conflicts. He warned that the current political stalemate could lead to new conflict.
El-Sonni noted that the aspirations of the Libyan people are clear. They seek a constitutional basis leading to elections. This process must end all transitional phases through ballot boxes rather than ammunition boxes.
He called for unifying international community initiatives based on previous foundations with UN coordination. He stressed that ending political division is the radical solution to all other obstacles.
El-Sonni welcomed all international initiatives seeking to end political division and respect national sovereignty. He specifically highlighted initiatives calling for stability and the rejection of war.
He considered the unified spending agreement a reflection of comprehensive national will. He urged all parties to commit to its implementation. Finally, he warned against tampering with or manipulating frozen Libyan assets.
