In his address to the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi affirmed that Libya, both its leadership and its people, rejects the recent Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar, considering any attack on an Arab or Islamic state an affront to the entire nation.
Al-Menfi extended his thanks to the State of Qatar and its Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for calling the summit. He stressed that the attack on Qatari sovereignty last week is inseparable from the campaign of genocide in Gaza and the escalation against Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. He considered this aggression an extension of the occupation’s racist policies, which were previously condemned by the 2024 Riyadh Summit and affirmed by the International Court of Justice.
Al-Menfi called for a unified Arab and Islamic position within the UN Security Council and General Assembly, and for taking practical steps that include supporting Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, imposing sanctions to deter aggression, and supporting the Qatari, Egyptian, and Saudi mediation to end the suffering in Gaza. He emphasized that “the Palestinian cause is the core of the conflict, and there is no peace without ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital.”
Al-Menfi noted that Libya was one of the first to support South Africa’s move to prosecute the occupation before the International Court of Justice, and will continue to support legal and diplomatic efforts to hold it accountable. He stressed the importance of unifying media and diplomatic discourse to expose the occupation’s narrative and its crimes.
Al-Menfi concluded his speech by renewing his thanks to the Emir of Qatar for hosting the summit, calling for the continuation of Qatari mediation efforts to resolve the issue of Gaza and the prisoners, saying: “We will not leave Qatar nor our people in Gaza to face their fate alone, for the cause is one and the destiny is shared.”
