Tripoli – GNU Minister of Interior Emad Al-Trabelsi met on Monday with protesters from the “No to Resettlement” movement, along with activists and representatives from the municipalities of Greater Tripoli. According to the Ministry of Interior, the minister listened to the concerns of protesters about the presence of undocumented migrants in Libya.
Al-Trabelsi stated that since taking office, the ministry has implemented a comprehensive security plan that prioritizes combating illegal migration. He noted that addressing this complex issue requires sustained effort, time, and the cooperation of all Libyan state institutions and society to respond effectively.
The minister stressed the need for genuine and serious work on migration. He emphasized that Libya continues to carry a heavy burden due to this international problem, adding that Libya is not a destination for migrants, but rather a transit country to other states.
“We categorically reject resettlement in any form. We are committed to addressing this file and will not allow any illegal presence in the country except in accordance with the law,” Al-Trabelsi said.
He explained that the Ministry of Interior’s plan to combat illegal migration begins with securing the borders in cooperation with relevant state agencies. He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to fulfill its responsibilities to reduce the flow of migrants through Libyan territory.
The plan also aims to tighten control over desert regions and cities, monitor the coastline and maritime borders to prevent illegal crossings of the Mediterranean, regulate the labor market according to existing laws, and repatriate undocumented migrants to their home countries.
Al-Trabelsi said that the government launched a national program to deport irregular migrants, repatriating thousands through organized legal and humanitarian procedures. He stressed that the right to peaceful protest is guaranteed for all citizens, and the Ministry of Interior is ready to secure demonstrations and protect participants to ensure these events remain peaceful and orderly.
The minister added that the ministry will continue working with relevant state agencies within a comprehensive security framework, focusing on border security, combatting illegal migration, drug trafficking, and organized crime.
