Ajdabiya – The First National Conference on Tuberculosis concluded its proceedings in Ajdabiya on Saturday evening. Organized by the Libyan Thoracic Society in collaboration with the Martyr Ahmed Al-Maghrif Teaching Hospital, the event brought together a distinguished group of physicians and specialists in combating thoracic and infectious diseases from across the country. Zainab Marsal, Director of Medical Affairs at the hospital, told the Libyan News Agency that the conference provided a high-level scientific platform for exchanging expertise and discussing the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, praising the extensive scientific attendance and the fruitful interaction during the sessions.
The conference’s scientific program addressed several critical themes, including the impact of instability on tuberculosis and the challenges facing Libya’s healthcare system in combating the disease. It also featured presentations on scientific experiences by several doctors and researchers. In its closing statement, the conference issued several key recommendations, urging the establishment of a comprehensive national tuberculosis registry in Libya and the enhancement of public awareness campaigns to curb its spread. Participants also stressed the need to strengthen the capacities of health centers, ensure a sustainable supply of medications and laboratory equipment, and promote collaboration between local and international medical and research institutions, calling for periodic conferences to evaluate ongoing efforts against tuberculosis and other thoracic diseases.
