Mohammed Al-Oweib, Director of the Planning Department at the Therapeutic Services Support and Development Agency, announced that an agreement has been reached to launch the first phase of the bone marrow transplant project, based at the National Cancer Institute in Misrata, as part of a national plan to localize cancer treatment within Libya.
In a statement to the “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel, which broadcasts from Turkey with Qatari funding, Al-Oweib explained that the coordination meeting, held at the agency’s headquarters and including the National Anti-Cancer Authority and the Emergency Medicine and Support Center, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between these national institutions on major health issues, chief among them the localization of cancer treatment and bone marrow transplantation.
Al-Oweib stated that the agreement includes cooperation with Italy’s Gaslini Hospital to train and qualify national medical personnel, along with technical support from the World Health Organization and the Eni oil company, as part of international partnership programs to transfer expertise and strengthen local capabilities.
The Director of the Planning Department noted that the meeting also addressed the plan to expand the localization of complex surgeries, such as neurosurgery, as part of a comprehensive vision to rebuild the country’s healthcare system in a way that reduces the need for treatment abroad and improves the efficiency of medical services.
