Benghazi – The Wahbi Al-Buri Cultural Center hosted a celebratory cultural evening yesterday. It marked the International Day of the Arabic Language. The event was organized by the Department of Activities and Programs. This department belongs to the Libyan Government’s Ministry of Culture and Arts. The slogan was “Our Letters Tell Stories.”
An elite group of intellectuals and linguistic enthusiasts attended the evening. It opened with an artistic performance. Students from Noor Al-Maaref School presented it. The title was “Peace in the Depths of the Seas.” It creatively embodied values of tolerance and humanity. The performance drew significant audience interaction.
The evening’s program included a scientific paper presentation. Researcher Rabha Al-Majbari presented it. Her paper was titled “Arabic between Institutional Presence and Media Absence.” She discussed the status of the Arabic language in official institutions and media. She stressed the importance of integrated roles. This integration is vital for advancing the language and protecting it from marginalization.
The evening also featured distinct poetic contributions. Poet Abdul Basit Al-Aqouri and child Abdul Rahman Hamza Atweir participated. They recited poems celebrating the beauty of the Arabic language. Their works highlighted its ability for expression and creativity across generations.
Within the cultural initiatives context, a proposal was made. It suggested reactivating the Signage Committee. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s Arab identity. It would involve cooperation with the Municipal Council. This supports the presence of the Arabic language in public spaces.
