Scattered thunderstorms and a warning of potential flash floods in Eastern Libya

Saturday, May 2, 2026 National 2 Mins Read
Meteorology: Temperatures within average and chances of light rain south of Gharyan and the Gulf region

Libya – The National Meteorological Center announced the prevailing weather conditions. It forecasts continued scattered rainfall. This will affect several areas in the north and center of the country. These conditions are expected from Saturday, May 2, 2026. They will last for the next two days. Relatively cold weather is also anticipated. It will cover most regions by tomorrow.

The center clarified that scattered rain is still possible today. This includes some areas in the north and center of the country. Specific areas are Jabal al-Gharbi, Mizdah, Al-Qaryat, Abunjeim, Sirte and its southern parts. Also affected are Al-Jafra, Al-Hamadah, Zillah, Maradah, and their adjacent areas. These rains may be accompanied by scattered thunderstorms.

The center added that clouds are increasing today. They cover most areas of the northeast. There is a chance of scattered rain. This includes the Gulf regions, Marj, Jabal al-Akhdar and its south. It also covers areas from Derna to the far eastern coast, Al-Butnan, and border areas with Egypt.

The center indicated that rainfall might be significant in some northeastern areas. It could be heavy at times. This is especially true for Al-Butnan and the far eastern coast. This might lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas. There is a possibility of flash floods. Some valleys may experience water runoff. Residents are urged to be vigilant.

The center explained that the chance of rain might extend today. This includes Jalo and Jaghbub. The rainy clouds are expected to dissipate starting tomorrow.

The center noted that the weather will remain relatively cold in northern areas. This cold weather will extend to most parts of the country by tomorrow.
