The Maghrebi Union of Journalists affirms support for press freedom and announces training programs

Benghazi – The Maghreb Union of Journalists affirmed the importance of press freedom. It considered press freedom a fundamental pillar. This pillar supports building democratic societies. The Union emphasized its role in enhancing transparency. It also highlighted its role in enlightening public opinion. Press freedom is crucial for combating media misinformation.

The Union issued a statement from Benghazi. This statement marked World Press Freedom Day. The Union explained this occasion comes at a critical time. The world faces increasing conflicts and divisions. This highlights the need for a free and independent press. A free press is an essential public service. It supports principles of accountability. It also upholds justice, equality, and human rights.

The statement indicated the Union is currently working to enhance cooperation. This cooperation is among journalists in the Maghreb region. It is opening membership applications. This allows journalists to benefit from training programs. They can also participate in activities. The General Secretariat plans to launch these. This will happen after completing regulatory procedures.

The Union reiterated its commitment to developing journalists’ capabilities. It aims to professionally qualify them. The Union also pledged to defend their rights. It will provide necessary protection during their duties. These efforts align with a vision. The vision aims to advance journalistic work in the region.

The statement confirmed the next phase will see the launch of practical initiatives. Specialized training programs will also be introduced. These initiatives will contribute to supporting press freedom. They will also enhance journalists’ efficiency. This will positively impact the quality of media content. This positive impact will be seen across Maghreb countries.
