The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa, inspected the Southern International Road project (Sirte – Sokna – Sabha), one of the most prominent national strategic projects aimed at connecting northern Libya with its south via a modern road built to the highest international standards.
The road extends for approximately 1200 kilometers from the city of Sirte, passing through Sokna and Jufra to Sabha, and then to Wadi Al-Tum in the far south. This is part of the national connectivity project, which also includes the route extending from Benghazi to Ajdabiya and Sirte in the north, and the oases and Kufra in the southeast of the country, under the supervision of the National Development Agency and the directives of the General Command.
He praised the level of achievement in the project, stressing the necessity of adhering to the approved technical and engineering standards for the road to become a model for major national projects that contribute to development and facilitate transportation between cities.
He pointed out that the international road will represent a vital economic artery that enhances trade and opens new horizons for local and cross-border development, which will positively impact the support of the national economy.
