Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held talks on Friday with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Al-Nefti and the United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, focusing on the latest developments in Libya.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty stressed the strategic importance of the Libyan file to Egypt’s national security, citing the deep geographical, political, and security ties between the two neighbouring countries.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for UN-led efforts to advance a comprehensive political process to resolve the Libyan crisis.
The minister reiterated Cairo’s long-standing position in favour of a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned solution, free from external interference and rooted in the framework of the Skhirat Agreement.
Abdelatty called for the urgent holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, underlining the importance of safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also emphasised the necessity of unified international efforts to implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions — particularly those calling for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libyan territory — as a crucial step toward restoring peace and stability.
