Field Marshal Haftar and Hammad meet Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad and discuss opening a Pakistani consulate in Benghazi

General Haftar Meets Pakistani Prime Minister to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Field Marshal Haftar and Hammad discussed developing partnership with Pakistan in Islamabad. They explored opening consulates and forming a committee to follow up on agreements.

Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. Osama Hammad is the Head of the Libyan Government. They were on an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. They held an extensive meeting in Islamabad. The meeting was with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. It took place at the Pakistani Cabinet headquarters.

Officials from both sides attended the meeting. From the Libyan side were Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar. He is the Deputy Commander-in-Chief. Abdul Hadi Al-Huweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was present. Khalid Al-Saadawi, Minister of State for Communication Affairs, also attended. Saleh Al-Manfi, Advisor to the Prime Minister, was there. These attendees were confirmed by the government’s media office. The Pakistani delegation included Field Marshal Asim Munir. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistani Armed Forces. Ishaq Dar attended as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Asim Malik serves as the National Security Advisor. Khawaja Muhammad Asif is the Defense Minister. Muhammad Raza Haraj is the Minister of Defense Production. Tariq Fatemi, Advisor to the Prime Minister, was present. Amna Baloch, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also joined.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Libya and Pakistan. Ways to develop these relations were discussed. This included fostering a mutual partnership. Mechanisms for activating existing agreements were explored. They also considered updating these agreements. The updates would align with regional and international changes. The goal is to transform them into practical projects. These executive projects will serve the interests of both countries.

Osama Hammad stated that Libyan-Pakistani relations are historic. They are built on mutual respect and cooperation. He stressed the importance of a more effective partnership. This partnership should cover economy and investment. It should also include energy, education, and transport. Hammad emphasized stronger political coordination. This applies to common regional and international issues. He praised the armed forces in both countries. They create conditions for developing bilateral relations.

Hammad commended the Pakistani Armed Forces. He specifically praised Field Marshal Asim Munir. He acknowledged their efforts and cooperation with Libya. The Libyan Arab Armed Forces are led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. This support helps Libya’s army. It aids in defense and security. It also builds cooperation on common issues. They are activating previous agreements. New agreements are also being concluded.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his appreciation. He praised Field Marshal Khalifa Abu Al-Qasim Haftar. He also praised Prime Minister Osama Hammad. Their efforts advance bilateral relations. Sharif commended their work. It enhances stability and solidifies joint cooperation. He confirmed the deep historical ties between both nations. Pakistan is keen to expand partnership prospects. It seeks continuous coordination with Libya in the coming phase.

Both sides affirmed the importance of developing defense cooperation. They also emphasized security cooperation. This supports capacity building and training. It includes exchanging expertise. Technical support will also be provided. This will enhance the stability of Libyan state institutions. It will support efforts to maintain security. It will also help confront common challenges.

Both parties discussed developing consular and diplomatic work. This involves opening a Pakistani consulate in Benghazi. A Libyan consulate will also open in Pakistan. A joint committee will be formed. Its purpose is to follow up on previous agreements. It will also prepare for new agreements.

The discussions concluded. Both sides affirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation. They adopted joint follow-up mechanisms. Specialized technical committees will ensure effective agreement implementation. This opens horizons for a sustainable strategic partnership. It will also enhance bilateral relations.
