Riyadh – The Libyan national futsal team concluded its participation in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a 2-2 draw against its Uzbek counterpart in a match held Saturday evening as part of the group stage finals.
The national team had lost its previous two matches against Azerbaijan 5-4 and against the host nation, Saudi Arabia, 5-1, thus exiting the tournament in the first round with results that did not meet the expectations of the Libyan fans.
This performance by the Libyan team fell short of the ambitions of the sport’s enthusiasts, who had hoped for the continued brilliance of the two-time African and Arab champions, especially after the team’s distinguished performance in its previous continental participations.
A number of followers and those interested in futsal expressed their disappointment with the recorded results, stressing that what happened does not reflect the true capabilities of the Libyan players or the team’s honorable history in this sport.
