Rabat – Morocco’s Nahdet Berkane has qualified for the group stage of the CAF Champions League after defeating Al Ahli Tripoli two goals to one in the second-leg match of the round of 32, held this Saturday evening at the Berkane Municipal Stadium.
Al Ahli Tripoli took the lead first with a goal by Moayad Ellafi in the 10th minute, before Nahdet Berkane equalized through Senegalese player Paul Bassène in the 28th minute. Ayoub Khairi then scored the winning goal in the 54th minute.
The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw, allowing the Moroccan team, led by Tunisian coach Moïn Chaâbani, to continue its journey in the tournament, while Al Ahli Tripoli, led by Egyptian coach Hossam El Badry, has exited the continental competition.
The draw for the CAF Champions League group stage will be held on Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the 16 qualified teams will be divided into 4 groups, with the group winners and runners-up advancing to the quarterfinals.
