Higher Education declares an exceptional holiday in universities and research institutions

Benghazi – Libyan Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mahdi Shuaib Al-Saaiti, announced an exceptional holiday. The holiday will be on Wednesday and Thursday. It applies to all public and private universities. It also includes academies and research centers under the Libyan government. This decision follows recent weather fluctuations in several areas.

The minister explained the holiday decision prioritizes the safety of students and staff. This includes faculty members and workers in educational and research institutions. The storm caused material damage to some buildings. Power outages continue in several regions. Some main and secondary roads are closed. These conditions could hinder safe access to study and work locations.

Al-Saaiti noted that exceptional weather conditions impacted infrastructure and public services. These conditions included strong winds and dense dust. Temporary precautionary measures are necessary to ensure everyone’s safety. This also gives educational institutions time to re-prepare and address potential damages.

The Minister of Higher Education affirmed the holiday will be used to monitor university buildings. It will also check laboratories and ensure their technical readiness and safety. This ensures the resumption of educational and research processes. These activities will resume in a safe and stable environment. This will happen once weather conditions improve and the situation returns to normal.

Al-Saaiti urged university, academy, and research center administrations to adhere to the decision. They should take necessary organizational measures during the holiday. They must follow guidelines from relevant authorities. Continuous coordination is vital to ensure a regular and safe return to study.

The minister concluded by emphasizing citizen safety as a top priority for the Libyan government. He stressed the ministry will closely monitor weather developments. Additional decisions will be made if circumstances require. This ensures the stability of the educational process and protects its members.
