Agriculture Coordinator in Traghen: Harvest Season Begins Amidst Equipment Shortages and Diesel Fuel Crisis
Ahmed Hussein, coordinator of the agriculture sector in Traghen Municipality, stated this. The harvest season for the current agricultural year began on April 8. It started in Magwa locality. This phase marks the peak of agricultural activity. It follows a full year of work in the fields.
Shortage of Equipment and Harvest Fuel
Hussein explained in special statements to the Libyan News Agency (WAL). Farmers are facing a shortage of agricultural machinery. There is also a crisis in providing diesel fuel. This fuel is essential for operating harvesting equipment. This directly impacts the pace of work during the season.
Crop Accumulation and Weak Marketing
He added that the sector also suffers from crop accumulation. This is due to the absence of effective marketing mechanisms for produce. Furthermore, current prices do not cover production costs. This poses a challenge to the sustainability of agricultural activity in the region.
Call for Intervention by Competent Authorities
Hussein called on the competent authorities to intervene and provide fuel. They should also support the sector with agricultural machinery. Marketing operations need to be organized. This will help improve farmers’ incomes. It will also support local production.
