Sirt – The fifth phase of kidney transplant operations began on Wednesday. It started at Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital. An Jordanian medical team from the Arab Group for Kidney Transplantation supervised the procedures. Consultant Issa Kawalit leads this team. Libyan medical teams from the hospital’s nephrology and urology departments also collaborated.
Dr. Omran Aburaqiqah, the hospital’s consultant urological surgeon, commented. He also chairs the Standing Committee for Kidney Transplantation. He told the Libyan News Agency in Sirt about this phase. It targets patients from various Libyan cities. These patients require urgent surgical intervention. All necessary medical tests and examinations were completed.
Dr. Omran added that these kidney transplant operations aim to localize treatment. This will reduce patient suffering that has lasted for years. The initiative also develops specialized medical services in Sirt. It benefits the city and its surrounding areas. The hospital’s previous kidney transplant phases began last September. Over 17 successful operations were performed. All procedures were successful. Patients now live normal lives. They are free from the pain of dialysis.
