Libyan outgoing Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, has called on his government ministers to continue performing their duties and not pay attention to rumors being circulated through media, and to avoid “reckless decisions.”
Dbeibeh reiterated that his government will only hand over power to a government mandated by a new parliament elected by the Libyan people.
This came during his speech at the beginning of the third regular meeting of the Cabinet, held Sunday in Tripoli, during which he briefed the ministers on the latest developments of the local political situation.
In his speech, Dbeibeh accused the House of Representatives (HoR) of proposing a “parallel government” and voting on it in a strange way, trying to impose it despite the disagreement of all parties, as he put it, stressing that the road map for his government is still in place and that it has full legitimacy during this period.
He reminded his ministers that the roadmap emanating from the Political Dialogue Forum, the Geneva meetings and the Paris conference was approved by the international community and the Security Council.
Dbeibeh accused HoR of deliberately shuffling the cards in a desperate attempt, imposing a new reality to extend periods for themselves.
He stated that he presented a proposal to find a political way out of the escalating crisis, which requires holding parliamentary elections first at the end of June, in accordance with either the House of Representatives elections laws of 2014 or the General National Congress law of 2012, in response to the demands of the Libyan people, considering that his proposal is “realistic.”
