Libya – Political analyst Al-Sanousi Ismail commented on the briefing by UN Envoy Hannah Tetteh. Her briefing was presented to the Security Council. Ismail stated that Tetteh’s briefing “ignored facts”. He added that the mission bears responsibility for disregarding consensus agreements.
Ismail accused her of omitting part of the truth. In exclusive statements to Al-Raed news network, he stated the UN envoy presented only a portion of the truth. He claimed she overlooked the remainder. He described this as “deception.” He also called it a “disregard for established facts.” He added these facts refute her claims.
From his perspective, Tetteh attempted to show that the mission fulfilled all its Security Council mandates. She tried to convey that shortcomings rested solely with the Libyan parties.
He added that it is not a defense of the House of Representatives and High Council of State to say they reached difficult agreements. These agreements consumed significant time and effort from the national consensus current. He affirmed that the mission ignored many practical and viable settlements. These settlements were agreed upon by both councils. He pointed to the intervention of nations acting for their own interests. These interventions led to the abortion of the agreements.
Ismail believes the mission must be held responsible. This is for its disregard and lack of support for intra-Libyan consensus. He also holds the mission responsible for not clearly revealing the truth to the Security Council. He believes it should explain how Libyan agreements were thwarted. These agreements were undermined both locally and internationally.
