The Foreign Ministry of the Libyan Government of National Unity in Libya has issued a statement condemning the recent intrusion of Israeli forces into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa mosque. During the holy month of Ramadan, worshipers and people staying inside were attacked, which the Ministry has referred to as “overtly racist and unacceptable practices against the Palestinian people.”
The Ministry has called for an end to these attacks and has urged the international community to intervene. Libya has continuously expressed its support for the rights of the Palestinian people and remains steadfast in its stance towards the just Palestinian issue, the statement said.
On Tuesday night, the Israeli occupation forces invaded and attacked worshipers and people staying inside the Al-Aqsa mosque, causing injuries according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Footage has emerged showing the Israeli forces assaulting worshipers with beatings and arresting some of them. Amidst reports of Jewish group invitations to invade the mosque on Wednesday for Jewish holidays, hundreds of worshipers held vigil in the mosque at the behest of national NGOs.
Hamas has condemned the move which it described as an “unprecedented crime”, urging Palestinians to head to Jerusalem to “protect” the Al-Aqsa mosque. The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, made the statement on Wednesday morning. A Reuters correspondent in Ramallah reported that marches took place in various parts of the occupied West Bank in protest of what is happening at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli police’s attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to a statement on its Twitter account, the ministry urged Israel to immediately remove police and special forces from the holy site, which it described as a blatant violation of international law. The ministry’s condemnation was echoed by statements from various Palestinian officials, including Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, who warned Israel not to cross the red lines in the holy places, which could lead to a large explosion.
The attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque has been met with widespread condemnation across the Muslim world. The mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam, is located in the Old City of Jerusalem, which is part of the occupied Palestinian territories. The move by the Israeli police came amid rising tensions in the region, including the planned eviction of Palestinian families from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. This eviction has sparked protests and clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces. The attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque has further escalated tensions in the region and raised concerns about the possibility of further violence.
