ROME – The Speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, met on Thursday with Italy’s Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, in Rome.
During the meeting, Di Maio “stressed the urgency of defining the constitutional and legal basis and approving the electoral law, so that the elections can actually be held on the scheduled date of 24 December,” according to a statement by the Italian foreign ministry.
The top diplomat also emphasised “the importance of approving the unified budget for 2021, which is essential for improving social conditions in the country, and the urgency of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement, starting with the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country.”
