Dozens of Libyans lined up today in front of the Savings and Real Estate Investment Bank in Tripoli to apply for housing loans which incumbent Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh promised.
However, the applicants were told by the bank workers that the government did not issue an implementation mechanism after Dbeibeh’s surprise announcement on Friday.
The bank later issued a statement in which it confirmed that it is yet to initiate the application process. The bank added that it will announce the application date after the government completes the pending requirements.
Last Friday, Dbeibeh announced that, starting on Sunday, his government will grant 50,000 plots of land to young people across the country. He added that the country’s Savings Bank will also grant housing loans to the beneficiaries of these plots of land.
