The Libyan Presidential Council welcomed on Saturday the decision of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to appoint Senegalese diplomat Abdoulaye Bathily as his new special envoy to Libya, ending a nine-month vacancy.
In a public statement its Facebook page, the council praised the experience of the 75-year-old envoy while highlighting his work as Independent Expert for the strategic review of the U.N. Support Mission in Libya in 2021.
The council expressed hope that Bathily will “contribute with his vast experience to help the Libyans in the transition to the modern civil democratic state that all the Libyan people aspire to.”
