The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) is facing an internal conflict between those who support the December elections, and those opposite it because “they benefit from the status-quo”, LPDF member Belqassem Al-Nimr told reporters on Thursday.
“Half of the forum’s members are also members of the House Representative, the High Council of State or proponents of [Prime Minister] Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh,” Al-Nimr said, adding that those who oppose the elections keep putting forward proposals that impede consensus on the elections.
“There is still a long way to go, and we will wait for the next meeting of the forum,” he said.
LPDF members viewed on Wednesday four proposals for the constitutional basis of the December elections. They are expected to vote on choosing one later on.
This comes after the LPDF Proposal Bridging Committee failed to reach a compromise on a single proposal.
