Libya – A member of the State Council, Mohammed Maazab, said his council is not in an alliance with the unity government. He indicated there is only coordination between an executive authority and an advisory council in the western region.
Maazab acknowledged in special statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that there is limited tension in the relationship between Mohammed Takala and Abdul Hamid Dbeibah. He confirmed that communication between them continues.
Maazab pointed out that Dbeibah’s relationship with the head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, is the most damaged. This has been the case since the promotion of the ‘Boules initiative’. Menfi sensed a danger of being removed from his position.
Maazab stressed that the State Council opposes the current tracks. This includes the UN’s 4+4 committee. It held its first meeting last week in Rome. The opposition stems from the committee exceeding constitutional frameworks. He expects it to fail. He believes it will waste more of Libyans’ time.
He affirmed this opposition is not due to fear of marginalization in the political scene. He stated some are repeating this claim.
