Benghazi – Khaled Ashour, head of the National Security Council Office, held a broad meeting with department and office directors in Benghazi to discuss the council’s work plan and implementation mechanisms. The meeting aimed to activate the office’s mandates and strengthen its role in supporting Libya’s national security system, in line with directives from National Security Advisor General Abdulraziq Hussein Al-Nathouri.
The discussions covered several strategic priorities, including maritime security, protection of territorial waters, crisis and disaster management, safeguarding national documents and information, and health security with preparedness for epidemics.
Participants also explored the role of media in raising awareness about national security, the use of artificial intelligence in security, and the importance of developing a national early warning and strategic forecasting system. The meeting stressed the need for a comprehensive national security strategy that can address current and emerging challenges.
Attendees agreed to implement the approved work plan through specialized sessions focused on each area, with additional meetings for topics requiring further analysis and study. The goal is to achieve practical outcomes that help improve strategic decision-making processes.
At the conclusion of the talks, Ashour emphasized the need to adhere to the implementation plan and work as a unified team. He said this would enhance the institutional performance of the office and strengthen its ability to address national security issues.
Ashour added that the expected outcomes include the preparation of specialized policy papers, issuing regular assessments on national security topics, establishing a knowledge library for strategic studies, and submitting actionable recommendations to the National Security Advisor.
He also highlighted the importance of launching programs and initiatives to promote a culture of national security and raise awareness within state institutions. These efforts aim to build a unified vision for addressing risks and challenges.
This meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the National Security Council Office to develop its institutional work, raise readiness, and support strategic decision-making in line with evolving security dynamics and national interests.
