Benghazi – The Libyan Organization for the Rights of Persons with Visual Impairment, in cooperation with the Civil Democratic Party, organized a seminar at the International University on the occasion of World White Cane Day, which is celebrated annually to raise awareness about the rights of visually impaired individuals and promote their independence in society.
The seminar was held under the title: “Persons with Visual Impairment in Libya and Accompanying Disabilities: Challenges and Experiences,” where it addressed the challenges facing the blind, especially those with accompanying disabilities, in the fields of education, rehabilitation, and employment opportunities.
The head of the Organization for Visual Impairment, Abdul Basit Abay Al-Agouri, explained to the Libyan News Agency that the white cane symbolizes the independence and self-reliance of a blind person, calling for the support of this group and their empowerment for effective participation in society, ensuring them a dignified life on an equal footing with others.
For her part, Wafa Al-Oshaibi, a member of the Civil Democratic Party, affirmed the party’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the rights of persons with disabilities, noting that cooperation between civil society organizations and political parties is an important step towards establishing a culture of solidarity and equality.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the organization called on officials and relevant authorities to establish specialized programs and centers for the care and rehabilitation of people with visual impairments, especially those with multiple disabilities, and to work towards their broader integration into educational, employment, and societal institutions.
