State Council member Amina Al-Mahjoub announced that the Council’s presidency office will hold a meeting on Wednesday with the sovereign positions committee, followed on Thursday by a meeting between the sovereign positions committees of the Parliament and the State Council in the city of Benghazi.
In statements to Al-Masar TV, Al-Mahjoub explained that the discussion will focus on the priority between holding elections or filling the positions rejected by the UN envoy to Libya, stressing the need to amend the composition of the Elections Commission board to ensure balance.
She added that there are two anti-corruption bodies, one in Tripoli and the other in Benghazi, noting that the current situation is marked by corruption and administrative dysfunction, which necessitates unifying the two bodies to ensure the completion of sovereign positions, enhance oversight of public funds, and combat corruption.
Al-Mahjoub also stressed the need to reconsider the naming of the two bodies while maintaining the current appointments in accordance with the law. She pointed out that the division between the East and West has caused imbalances in oversight work, making unification necessary to ensure effectiveness.
