Presidential Council promises investigation into Tripoli clashes

Stephanie Williams, U.N. Advisor on Libya, and Mohamed Menfi, Chairman of Presidential Council, spoke on the phone yesterday to discuss outbreak of violence that took place in Tripoli on Friday night.

During the bilateral call, Menfi informed Williams that “an investigation had been launched into the clashes to hold those who willfully use force that endangers the lives of civilians accountable for their actions,” according to a statement by Williams via Twitter.

The violent clashes erupted between armed groups loyal to the government of outgoing prime minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh. Videos posted on social media showed civilians in state of panic when the armed groups exchanged fire on the streets.
