Tobruk – The West Tobruk Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Prosecution has ordered the pretrial detention of two members of a criminal gang after they were caught red-handed trafficking drugs in a security operation carried out by the head of the Butnan branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The operation came after a meticulous investigation into the suspects’ activities. They were transporting large quantities of hashish and cocaine overland from the city of Tobruk to Tripoli, and then to Al-Ajaylat. The surveillance resulted in the arrest of the suspects, who were found in possession of 118 kilograms of hashish and 24 kilograms of cocaine.
The Public Prosecution investigated the suspects, during which their confessions were recorded. It issued an order for their pretrial detention pending the investigation and directed security authorities to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang.
Security agencies affirm their continued efforts to combat drug smuggling networks and illicit trafficking to maintain security and stability and protect society from the dangers of drugs.
