A recent video released by the Sirte Free Zone shows notable progress in the construction of the “SSS” international highway project, which connects the port of the Sirte Free Zone to the city of Sabha via Sokna. The project is considered one of the most strategic infrastructure initiatives in Libya.
The project is being carried out under the supervision of the National Development Agency, as part of Libya’s Vision 2030, which aims to link southern regions with the national road network and promote spatial and economic integration across the country.
Last month, the Authority announced the launch of the second phase of the project, covering a distance of 290 kilometers between Sokna and Sabha. Implementation is being undertaken by Global Builders Company, in cooperation with Unicon Engineering Consultancy, and with technical coordination by the Authority’s Projects Study Office in Hun.

According to the Authority, construction sites have been handed over and the implementing companies have begun mobilizing equipment, with on-ground support from relevant agencies to accelerate progress. This reflects the strategic importance of the project in enhancing transportation between northern and southern Libya, and in positioning the country as a corridor to landlocked African nations.
The project is part of a broader national development plan led by General Saddam Khalifa, aiming to boost infrastructure and create an enabling environment for both local and international investment, particularly in free zones and inland areas of economic significance.
