Sirte Free Zone Inaugurates First Direct Shipping Line to Its Port

Sirte, Libya — The Sirte Free Zone has announced the launch of its first direct maritime shipping line to the port of the Free Zone, a move officials say will strengthen the city’s role as a strategic logistics hub.

The service is being operated by Mediterranean Shipping Agencies, which becomes the first company to designate the Port of Sirte as its primary point for importing and distributing goods.

Zone officials described the development as a significant step toward transforming Sirte into a competitive trade gateway connecting Libya’s coastline to regional and international markets.

“This partnership reflects confidence in our capabilities and strategic location,” the Free Zone said in a statement. “We hope it will encourage more companies and shipping agents to choose Sirte as a center for their operations.”

The announcement is seen as part of broader efforts to position the Sirte Free Zone as a key driver for economic growth, leveraging its location on the Mediterranean and its access to overland routes into Africa’s interior.
