Madrid – Spain announced on Wednesday that it had dismissed its ambassador in Tel Aviv. It is reducing its diplomatic representation in the occupied territories.
Spain lowered its diplomatic representation level in Israel. This followed a formal decision to terminate its ambassador’s mission in Tel Aviv. This step reflects ongoing tension in relations between the two countries.
The Spanish government published the ambassador’s dismissal in the Official State Gazette (BOE). This means the Spanish embassy in Tel Aviv will be managed by a Chargé d’affaires instead of an ambassador in the upcoming period. This represents a reduction in the diplomatic level of relations between the two sides.
This decision comes amid an ongoing diplomatic crisis between Madrid and Tel Aviv. The Spanish ambassador had been recalled to Madrid months ago. This was due to political disagreements related to the war in the Gaza Strip. It also reflects the differing positions of the two parties on the issue.
