Bani Walid – The Bani Walid Municipal Council announced coordination for Saif Gaddafi’s burial. They also arranged to receive mourners. Mourners will come from various Libyan cities and regions. This was done in cooperation with the city’s security and service agencies.
The council condemned Saif’s assassination in a statement issued today, Thursday. It described the incident as a “treacherous act.” This act aims to “strike national cohesion.” It also seeks to “undermine the political process” in Libya. The council warned that such actions “fuel hatred.” They “disrupt national unity.”
The statement indicated the council responded to Saif’s family’s request. The family asked for him to be buried in Bani Walid. This decision was based on the deep social ties. These ties connect the Warfalla and Gaddadfa tribes. The council affirmed this relationship is based on intermarriage. It is also based on coexistence and mutual support. A long history of shared bonds attests to this relationship.
The Bani Walid Municipal Council concluded its statement. It affirmed that “Bani Walid will always remain for all Libyans.” This includes Libyans of all political orientations and viewpoints. The council stressed that the city “stands today, as it always has, equidistant from everyone.”
