Benghazi – The city of Benghazi witnessed a celebration on Monday for the National Day of the establishment of the Municipal Guard, in an official event attended by a large number of government and security leaders, in recognition of the agency’s role in strengthening security and stability within the community.
The celebration was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Libyan Government, Ali Al-Qatrani; the Minister of Defense of the Libyan Government, Major General Ahmeida Houma; and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Faraj Aqeim. Also present were the Head of the Internal Security Agency, Lieutenant General Osama Al-Darsi; the Minister of Local Government, Sami Al-Dhawi; the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Salem Al-Darsi; and the Minister of Electricity, Awad Al-Badri. They were joined by the directors of the Libyan government’s security agencies, the Mayor of Benghazi, Saqr Boujawari; the Director of the Benghazi Security Directorate, Major General Salah Huwaidi; the Head of the Anti-Narcotics Agency, Major General Adel Abdulaziz; and the Head of the Illegal Migration Agency, Salah Al-Khafi. Additionally, the Head of the State Property Authority, Abdul Moneim Aglio; the Head of the Urban Planning Authority, Akram Al-Hassi; the President of the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Moneim Al-Saiti; the Director of the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Jalal Huwaidi; and the directors of the Municipal Guard branches from various regions also participated.
In his speech during the celebration, the Head of the Municipal Guard, Major General Abdul Moneim Al-Mahshesh, extended his thanks and appreciation to the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, led by Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, for the significant support they provided to the agency to enhance its security role and organize work within the cities. He affirmed that this support directly contributed to enabling the Municipal Guard to perform its duties with high efficiency and to face various security and service challenges.
Al-Mahshesh also praised the efforts of the Libyan government, headed by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, stressing that the cooperation between the government and the agency is a fundamental pillar for strengthening the role of the Municipal Guard as an important cornerstone in protecting the community, regulating commercial activities, and preserving public health.
The ceremony included visual presentations that showcased the most prominent achievements of the Municipal Guard since its establishment, including inspection campaigns, market organization, monitoring of violations, and the agency’s efforts in supporting community security and curbing illegal activities. Officials also delivered speeches praising the efforts of the Municipal Guard members and their effective role in promoting stability within the cities.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Major General Abdul Moneim Al-Mahshesh affirmed that the Municipal Guard will continue to perform its duties with steadfastness and responsibility, relying on the support provided by the General Command and the Libyan government in terms of headquarters, equipment, and vehicles. He noted that this National Day represents a new starting point towards greater cooperation and joint national action, to achieve security and stability and serve the interests of the citizen.
