Benghazi – The Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Health, Abdulsalam Aqila, conducted a field visit today, Thursday, to the Oncology Center in the city of Benghazi, as part of the efforts to implement the health sector reform plan under the direction of Prime Minister Osama Hammad.
The visit included the treatment departments within the center, where the Undersecretary General monitored the workflow, met with the heads of medical and technical departments, and listened to their observations and needs with the aim of developing the level of performance and improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients.
He also held an extensive meeting with the center’s director, Ali Al-Zanati, and members of the scientific committee, to discuss mechanisms for improving treatment programs and increasing the efficiency of medical work, in accordance with the standards of advanced centers.
During the meeting, the importance of establishing a national database to monitor the number of cancer patients and their treatment needs was reviewed, in addition to developing plans for early detection and implementing comprehensive national surveys to obtain accurate data that supports health decision-making.
The necessity of unifying treatment protocols among specialized centers was also discussed, to ensure equity in service delivery and enhance the quality of clinical outcomes throughout the country.
During the meeting, the new oncology hospital project, currently being implemented with funding from the Development and Reconstruction Fund, was reviewed. It is expected to receive patients from various regions, which requires providing qualified medical and technical staff equipped with the latest equipment, as mentioned by the Libyan News Agency correspondent.
This visit is part of a comprehensive government strategy aimed at supporting specialized medical facilities, improving the efficiency of treatment services, and expanding the scope of health coverage, especially in the areas of oncology treatment and specialized care.
The Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund continues to implement projects aimed at modernizing the health infrastructure and providing modern equipment for hospitals and specialized centers, thereby enhancing the health system’s capacity to respond to national needs.
