On Saturday, the head of the High Council of State in Libya, Khaled Al-Mishri, and the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, met in Istanbul to discuss recent political developments, both locally and internationally. The two leaders touched on the topic of the Libyan electoral process and explored ways to make it a success, agreeing on the laws and regulations that will regulate it.
According to a statement from the High State Council, the Turkish Foreign Minister updated Al-Mishri on his recent talks in Ankara with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, and the rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt’s vision to resolve the Libyan political crisis.
In a televised interview with a local channel, Mevlut Cavusoglu highlighted the importance of the joint military battalion formation in Libya as a step towards unifying the military institution. He stressed the significance of cooperation between Turkey and Egypt, stating that it would be in the interest of Libya.
Cavusoglu also emphasized that holding elections would be essential for the unification of Libya, after his third meeting with Shoukry since the end of February. He underscored the importance of the roles of Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia in resolving the Libyan crisis.
