Units affiliated with the GNU Ministry of Defense have begun moving from the capital, Tripoli, toward the city of Sirte to participate in exercise “Flintlock 2026,” a joint military tactical project supervised by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The exercise aims to strengthen international cooperation frameworks in the field of counter-terrorism and raise readiness levels to address security threats in the North and West African regions, in a precedent that is the first of its kind in Libya in terms of the scale of participation and international diversity.
This exercise comes within the context of supporting efforts to unify the military institution and increasing the efficiency of officers and personnel through gaining advanced field expertise, in addition to developing special forces’ capabilities, enhancing Libya’s standing at the regional and international levels, and demonstrating its ability to host and execute joint military exercises according to international standards.
