The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) today strongly condemned an armed attack on the High National Elections Commission office in Zliten on 12 August, which damaged property and injured two people.
The mission warned that such violence aims to intimidate voters and disrupt elections.
Amid concerns over possible election suspensions due to security risks, UNSMIL urged Libyan authorities to ensure safe voting for municipal polls scheduled for 16 August.
UNSMIL called for accountability for the Zliten attack and urged authorities to resume the electoral process swiftly.
