U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland said he received a call from the Libyan Presidential Council’s President Mohamed al-Menfi Saturday evening and “used the opportunity to convey deep U.S. concern about the political, economic and financial stalemate that resulted in scenes of turmoil such as those we saw Friday across the country.”
“It is clear no single political entity enjoys legitimate control across the entire country and any effort to impose a unilateral solution will result in violence,” US Embassy in Libya quoted Norland.
“Only dialogue and compromise among the key figures will identify a path to elections and political stability,” Norland pointed out.
“We welcome the PC’s voice in urging such compromise, and urge Libya’s political leaders across the spectrum and their foreign backers to seize the moment to restore the confidence of their citizens in the country’s future,” he added.
