Libya’s High Council of State and House of Representatives are making “intensified efforts” to “agree promptly on a roadmap that will give the public confidence that elections will take place as soon as possible,” revealed Richard Norland, the U.S. Special Envoy and Ambassador to Libya.
Norland’s remarks came following a phone conversation with Khaled al-Mishri, the chairman of High Council of State (HCS), to “convey US support for efforts to restore momentum to presidential and parliamentary elections following the postponement in December,” according to a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Libya via Twitter.
“Chairman [Al-Mishri] cited the nearly 3 million Libyans who are ready to cast their votes and described intensified efforts with the House of Representatives to agree promptly on a roadmap that will give the public confidence that elections will take place as soon as possible,” Norland was quoted as saying by the embassy.
“I expressed US support for any process that will give Libyans the strong, unified, sovereign, elected government they deserve,” he concluded.
