Benghazi – Mohammed Akreem is the official spokesman for the General Water and Wastewater Company. He confirmed the company has raised its readiness to the highest level. Technical teams were deployed across various Libyan regions. This is in anticipation of recent weather fluctuations. The goal is to address potential water accumulation or network pressure.
Akreem explained that field interventions addressed bottlenecks in Al-Bayda city. Teams from the Al-Bayda services office carried out the work. This office is under the Green Mountain Operations and Maintenance Department. He noted that conditions in Al-Marj and Al-Abyar cities are stable. This is despite light rainfall. No significant issues were recorded there.
He clarified that sewage network capacity depends directly on rainfall amounts. The overall situation is good and stable, he pointed out. However, infrastructure readiness varies among regions. Operational capacity also differs regionally.
Akreem affirmed that any reported fault or emergency is handled urgently. He stated the technical situation is not currently concerning. The company’s declared state of emergency involves distributing technical teams nationwide. Rapid interventions continue upon receiving reports. He cited the resolution of some bottlenecks in Tripoli in recent days.
He indicated ongoing coordination with service and security entities. These include security operations rooms and the Capital Call Center (1415). The Ambulance and Emergency Service is also involved. He confirmed the company’s main operations room operates 24/7. It monitors all reports and field developments.
Regarding water quality, he explained the company conducts regular analyses. This applies to water wells and pumping stations. These analyses are done through facilities offices under regional administrations. Instant labs also play a role in water testing. They address any indicators of pollution. This is especially important for unauthorized well drilling.
Akreem concluded by affirming the company’s advanced technical capabilities. These are used to address issues. They also conduct network cleaning and unclogging campaigns. He noted that some older networks have limited capacity. This requires temporary solutions. Rapid interventions are needed during heavy rainfall.
